The thumb grips the top side of the disc, while the four other fingers grip the rim - two on the outside and two on the inside. It is important that you keep your forefinger and middle fingers together on the inside of the rim. The forefinger should be supporting the middle finger as it presses against the inner rim of the disc as you are moving through your release. Spreading these two fingers is a common mistake of beginning throwers, and results in decreased power on the release and decreased control of the throw at greater distances and in higher winds. The two fingers on the outside of the rim should press together against the rim in order to provide a stable grip. These two do not necessarily need to be extended, and may curl against the rim if this is more comfortable. A good test of your grip is your ability to fake a forehand effectively without having the disc slip in your hand. |
